More reinforcements in the Suez Canal
Towage provider Svitzer, an affiliate of Maersk, is further extending its current contract with the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) to include two additional tugs to service the Canal.
After operations were launched with two tugs in Port Said in late 2019, two more tugs followed in December 2021, and the latest two will join their sister vessels at the end of May 2022. One of the new units will operate out of Port Said and one out of Port Suez.
With the additions, Svitzer will have six vessels in the Suez Canal and employ 120 Egyptian seafarers. The vessels will be delivered by the Turkish tugboat builder Med Marine.
Svitzer currently operates a fleet of 110 vessels in seven ports and eleven terminals across twelve countries in the region of AMEA (Africa, Middle East & Asia). (sh)
