More railfreight at Southampton
DP World is encouraging freight owners to transport their goods by rail from Southampton (UK) and targeting a 40% railfreight share in 2026. This segment has risen from 21% to 30% since the launch of the company’s modal shift programme in September 2023. Accordingly, DP World has introduced four new daily rail services at the Southampton terminal, taking the total number of weekly scheduled trains to 172.
The company now plans to extend its modal shift programme in this area until the end of next year to offer freight owners additional options to move their import-laden containers via rail to a railhead within 225 km of the logistics hub instead of using trucks. (ben)
