More potential for intermodal services in Basel
The Swiss transport and logistics company Camion Transport (CT) is taking over the business activities of its long-standing partner company Hänger in Basel. As of 1 January 2024, the two family-owned companies will combine their activities at the Wolf railfreight station in Basel. The assets of the medium-sized company, i.e., all ten employees, the existing customer relationships and the thirteen forklifts up to the 10 t heavy-duty unit, will be fully integrated into CT.
The takeover was triggered by a reorientation of Hänger's strategy, as the family-owned company saw its current location called into question by a residential development at the Wolf railfreight station. With its niche expertise in special handling, both of heavy and complex goods, and the loading and unloading of overseas containers mainly by rail, Hänger complements CT's range of services.
Hänger’s activities will be established as a separate department. The current managing director, Karin Ruppen-Hänger, will be responsible for this division as head of the department.
CT will also take over further halls with a total of 7,500 sqm at the railfreight station from 1 January 2024. In a part of the property, CT is planning a conversion in cooperation with the landlord SBB.
Michael Werner, branch manager of Camion Transport Basel, explains: "The move from the current trailer location to this new one is planned for Q3/2024. Overall, Camion Transport is significantly expanding its premises at the Basel site and will thus have around 15,000 sqm of handling space, 23,000 sqm of storage space and 1,000 sqm of hazardous materials storage with around 80 ramp spaces.” (cd)
