More pasta, oil and solar panels by rail

From today, 21 October 2024, GTS Group, an intermodal operator based in Bari, southern Italy, is increasing its freight services in Campania, Italy, by doubling the number of weekly trips on the Piacenza-Nola railway route from three to six. GTS thus enhances its connections both with northern Italy (24 hours) and northern Europe (48/72 hours to reach Benelux and the UK).

Export trains will carry containers with food preserves, pasta, and oil, as well as packaging, while imports will be predominantly raw materials for food production, machinery, but also green technologies (solar panels). The number of containers to/from Campania will rise to 360 per week, for a total of 18,000 units per year. This will mean 180 fewer trucks on the roads per week, GPS said. (ben)
