More medical supplies to Namibia

A series of Volga-Dnepr charter flights to Namibia took off from Leipzig/Halle airport (LEJ) recently, with two humanitarian flights to Windhoek this week. The cargo included medical supplies weighing more than 95 t, including masks and respirators needed by the Southern African country to fight the Corona pandemic.

The German government's aid delivery, delivered by AN-124-100s, consisted of more than 600 pallets or 1,200 cbm. The client was the Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (DG Echo).

A new logistics centre initiated by Echo for civil protection is set to be built in Leipzig, in the framework of a programme called RescEU. As a part of this programme the German Red Cross DRK will also set up a logistics centre for disaster management near the airport. (cd)
