More LNG operations in the port of Barcelona
Over the full year 2019, the port of Barcelona (Catalonia) supplied about 37,200 cbm of LNG to vessels in ship-to-ship bunkering procedures, where one ship directly provides fuel to another vessel. Overall, the port witnessed a total of 18 operations of this kind. This figure represents 60% of the ship-to-ship operations carried out in the major 30 ports of Spain.
In the port of Barcelona, direct LNG bunkering from ship to ship was carried out by the “Coral Methane” boat, which has a capacity of 7,550 cbm.
The total supply of LNG to vessels in the ports of Spain amounted to 81,700 cbm in 2019, according to data provided by Gasnam, the association that promotes the use of natural gas in maritime and land transport.
The port of Barcelona was therefore responsible for 46% of the LNG supplied to vessels at ports throughout the country. Besides these 18 ship-to-ship operations, five truck-to-ship operations -ship (from a tanker to a boat) contributed an additional 400 cbm to the total amount. (mw)
