More innovation incentives required
At the "Forum Schienengüterverkehr" in Germany, the Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik (association for supply chain management, procurement and logistics, BME) and the Verband Deutscher Verkehrsunternehmen (association of German transport companies, VDV) called for more incentives to boost innovation in railfreight services.
If the planned growth rate of 25% is to be achieved by 2030, the relevant players must exploit the numerous potentials generated by the digitalisation and automation of vehicles, cars and infrastructures, the associations concluded.
They also urged the transport industry and the federal government to ensure a timely and consistent implementation of the various upgrades proposed in their railfreight masterplan. (ben) www.vdv.de
