More hinterland traffic between Switzerland and Antwerp

At an event hosted by the Swiss Propeller Club, Antwerp Port Authority stated that Switzerland and the port of Antwerp are moving closer together.

The Swiss railfreight operator Schweizerzug has been offering four round trips per week between Frenkendorf, near Basel, and the Belgian port since the beginning of 2019. The railway operator Hupac provides eight round trips per week between Basel and Antwerp, and Lineas five such services.

Since January 2019, Contargo began transporting containers twice per week on its Antwerp TriRegio Express that runs between Antwerp and the German railway station in Basel (Badischer Bahnof).

On top of that, daily barge services on the Rhine provide more connections between Basel and the Belgian port. (ben)
