More funding for turn-off assistants required

Last year, the German ministry of transport and digital infrastructure provided funds in two EUR 2 million instalments to promote the deployment of turn-off assistants in trucks. The funding only sufficed for 7,000 vehicles.

"Considering that there are several million trucks from 3.5 t on the German roads, this amount is unfortunately not enough,” says the Netzwerk Logistik Mitteldeutschland (the central German logistics network), calling for more financial funding to speed up the installation of turn-off assistants.

The current plan foresees a gradual introduction of this equipment from July 2022 for new types of vehicles and then from July 2024 for all new vehicles. (ben)
