More capacity on Belgian-British route

The shipping line P&O Ferries is chartering additional capacity from Finnlines. The two companies are joining forces to respond to the demand of trade flows between Belgium and UK on the Zeebrugge-Teesport route.

The Finnlines vessel “MS Finnpulp” will be chartered for three days a week under a new services agreement. “MS Finnpulp” has a capacity for 3,259 lane metres of cargo, equivalent to around 225 trailers. This extra capacity will increase the overall number of P&O Ferries sailings to six on this trading route between Britain and the Continent.

Peter Hebblethwaite, chief executive of P&O Ferries, said that the agreement will support businesses in UK and the Continent by "increasing freight capacity and strengthening resilience on the key Teesport – Zeebrugge route."

Tom Pippingsköld, president and CEO of Finnlines, also pointed out current fields of cooperation: “We have been pleased by our partnership in Zeebrugge since September 2021 and are delighted to strengthen it further by this contract."

From 28 February 2023, the new sailings will operate from Tuesdays to Thursdays. On its return to Zeebrugge, the vessel will be discharged and loaded for Finnlines’ service between Zeebrugge and Rosslare, Ireland. (sh)
