More capacity for freight transport in Kazakhstan

The Kazakh railway company KTZ is investing heavily in the expansion of its railway infrastructure in preparation for an increase in freight volumes. A major expansion programme has already been approved, whereby existing tracks are to be extended and additional ones built by 2030. KTZ will also be installing new points and automatic barriers.

The plans complement four major infrastructure projects that are already underway. The Dostyk-Moyynty, Bakhty-Ayagoz and Darbaza-Maktaaral railway lines and a bypass road around Almaty with a total length of 1,334 km are currently under construction.

The railway company is also expanding the single-track sections Zhezkazgan-Zharyk, Kazaly - Arys, Almaty - Altynkol, Aksu - Zhana-Semey, Kandyagash - Tobol. (ben)
