More biodegradable plastic
Last year, American Airlines Cargo reduced long-term plastic waste in air cargo operations by over 68,000 kg, the equivalent of 8.6 million water bottles, 2.2 million more than the year before, when the carrier introduced the use of Bionatur Plastics products at major US hubs.
One year ago, American added regional domestic stations, such as Detroit, Honolulu, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, Montevideo (Uruguay) and Santiago de Chile to this programme.
The airline plans to continue replacing traditional plastic used for stretch wrap and pallet covers with this product line, which is manufactured with a 1% load of an organic, food-safe proprietary additive that allows anaerobic bacteria to digest the plastic in a landfill. Outside a landfill, the plastic performs exactly like traditional plastic products. (ah)
