More and more electric HDVs hit the roads

Amazon is investing in electric vehicles around the world and now rolling out nearly 50 electric heavy-duty vehicles (HDV) in Southern California alone. According to the company, it is the largest fleet of such vehicles in any country so far.

They will haul cargo containers and customer packages in Amazon’s first- and middle-mile operations, joining the hundreds of last-mile electric vans already delivering packages in the US state. Combined, these trucks are expected to travel more than 1.6 million km each year with zero tailpipe emissions.

Amazon’s first-ever e-trucks have recently started hitting the road at the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, with more to enter service by the end of the year. (ben)
