Montreal improves port’s rail access
The Canadian government will invest up to CAD 16.75 million (EUR 11.4 million) for a project at the Port of Montréal which will add a fourth track on the Pie-IX railway bridge and build a storage area. These upgrades, including the fourth track, involve fitting a further 500 m into the railway network of the bridge.
The investments will preserve the long-term viability of the port’s container terminals, increase the rail capacity, and reduce freight costs, the government said. The measures will also strengthen modal interconnectivity at the port site, ensure the safety of rail operations on the site and will help to reduce environmental impacts by using railfreight over trucking.
