Monitoring weather to prevent costly flight disruption
"eWAS Pilot", which was developed by Sita, a global specialist in air transport communications and information technology, monitors weather conditions to help reduce costs due to weather-related flight disruption.
Already used by 50,000 pilots worldwide, it provides accurate 4D weather forecasts and real-time updates from various sources to warn about weather hazards. Now it has been implemented by Aerologic as the first European cargo airline. The technology was rolled out in just four weeks to the airline's 17 B777F.
As part of its digital transformation, the joint venture between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo has also signed up to Sita "Aircom Cockpit Services", a suite of integrated IT solutions, to centralise and manage air-to-ground communications for greater efficiency and collaboration. (ah)
