MOL takes one more step in Southern Africa

Tokyo-based Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) is acquiring a 25% stake in the Tanzania-based Alistair Group. Its business centres on cross-border logistics services for trucking copper, cobalt, and other critical mineral resources produced in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia to coastal export ports. Other services include customs clearance, warehouse operations, cargo handling at ports, and logistics DX (digital transformation).

As the first Japanese shipping company to establish a shipping route between Japan and the east coast of Africa in 1926, MOL has now offices in South Africa, Mozambique, Kenya, and Mauritius.

The group is also developing other businesses to add to its portfolio, such as air and ocean freight forwarding, land transport, warehousing, and the export of used Japanese agricultural machinery. (ah)
