MOL's plastic recycling trial
MOL and Idemitsu Kosan are launching a demonstration test to recycle used plastic waste generated on a very large crude carrier (VLCC). The test, conducted on the VLCC “Suzukasan” chartered by Idemitsu Tanker Co., will use the waste plastic as raw material to produce oil through recycling technology.
Idemitsu Kosan will verify if the generated oil can be used for petrochemical products and fuel oil. The companies’ goal is to eventually produce "renewable chemicals" and "renewable fuel oil" using oil derived from used plastic on VLCCs. (pb)
