Moerdijk port strengthens ties with Bilbao
A delegation from the Dutch port of Moerdijk recently visited the port of Bilbao to strengthen commercial ties, particularly in container trade. The meeting with Bilbao Port Authority representatives highlighted the success of a W.E.C. Lines service, which has increased container traffic between the two ports since its launch in 2021.
Known for its multimodal transport solutions and sustainable operations, Moerdijk is a key logistics hub connecting Northern Europe, the UK and beyond. Ferdinand van den Oever, CEO of Moerdijk’s port authority, emphasised the port’s strategic importance in logistics, while Bilbao’s operations director, Andima Ormaetxe, noted the benefits of collaboration between ports to enhance efficiency and sustainability.
W.E.C. Lines has expanded its service with new rail connections and door-to-door logistics, reaching markets in the UK, the Netherlands, Belgium and Northern Europe, further positioning Bilbao as a key gateway for trade in the region. (pb)
