Modern equipment improves intermodal performance
Alliance Shippers is enhancing its refrigerated intermodal operations in North America with Carrier Transicold’s telematics solution and new refrigeration units. The telematics solution is being installed on all 1,500 of its 53-foot trailers for remote monitoring of all its trailer and container assets, improving efficiencies in addition to managing cargo temperatures.
Furthermore, Alliance Shippers is upgrading its fleet, converting from the traditional trailer-on-flatcar model to modern, stackable 53-foot domestic intermodal containers. Its newest 200 units are thin-profile vector refrigeration containers allowing for a cargo volume which is comparable to over-the-road trailers. The units are also supported by a rail-optimised solar charging system. (ben)
