Modal shift to rail stalling
BLS Cargo calls for comprehensive infrastructural improvements in Switzerland’s rail network.
The private Swiss railfreight company sees a need for action in terms of construction site coordination and compensation.More parking and buffering facilities are also required at border locations and on the Swiss Plateau, and track access charges must be stabilised and reduced.
BLS Cargo adds that the country’s modal shift target can only be achieved with additional efforts. Although the rail share of transalpine freight transport currently amounts to 72.7%, which is still higher than in other Alpine countries, it has been declining for two years. Combined transport and conventional rail transport are currently 10-15% below the previous year's level. (ben) www.blscargo.ch
