Mixed results in Auckland
The Ports of Auckland have reported the results of their financial year 2020/2021 ending on 30 June 2021. New Zealand's main port facility showed a mixed picture after a difficult year.
The port's container throughput fell by 7.6% to 818,000 teu (FY 19/20: 881,000 teu), while car and light commercial vehicle throughput rose to more than 236,000 units (FY 19/20: 216,000 units) and total bulk and breakbulk throughput (including cars & light commercial vehicles) increased by 15% to 6.67 million t compared to 5.8 million t.
The port's revenue moved sidewards to NZZ 226 million (USD 161 million) from NZD 231 million (USD 164.5 million) in the same period last year. Yet, underlying profit for the year fell to NZD 20.7 million (USD 14.75 million) from NZD 30 million (USD 21.3 million) in FY 19/20, largely driven by the Covid-19 response. (cd)
