Mixed results for Q1/2019 in Antwerp
In the port of Antwerp, total throughput fell by 3% in Q1/2019 compared to Q1/2018. Container traffic, on the other hand, continues to rise, recording the port’s best ever monthly result in March.
In 2018, Antwerp’s share in the container market measured in tonnage increased to 27.5%, which corresponds to a growth of 0.7%. The port of Antwerp therefore reported the highest growth rates within the Hamburg-Le-Havre-range, with a net growth of 650,000 teu.
Roro turnover increased by 3.2% in the first three months of 2019. Despite a lower number of vehicle units, the amount of tonnage handled increased due to higher average weights per vehicle, particularly where utility vehicles were concerned. The upward trend is expected to continue. (kd)
