Milan in the lead, Rome battling hard


While almost 200 million passengers flew to and from Italy’s airports in 2023, the current economic and geopolitical situation led to a slight decline in freight traffic.

 

According to the national airport association Assaeroporti, 1.039 million t of airfreight were transported, 1.6% less than in the previous year and 1.5% less than in 2019. With 666,000 t (-7% compared to 2022), Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP) confirmed its dominance, followed by Rome Fiumicino (FCO), which posted a strong increase (+36.9%) to 184,000 t , and Venice (VCE) with 47,000 t (-0.6%).

 

Assaeroporti president Carlo Borgomeo recognised the "resilience of our sector, which is in excellent shape and continues to be of strategic importance for the country". More news from Italy in the regional focus of today's ITJ 05-08/2024! (ah)
