Midlands’ new hub to handle 16 trains daily

Maritime Transport will develop a GPB 175 million (EUR 205 million) and 160 sqm strategic railfreight interchange (SRFI) at Hinckley national railfreight interchange in Leicestershire (UK).

The new terminal, which will sit alongside of warehouse facilities, will strengthen railfreight connections between the Midlands and the major ports of Felixstowe, Liverpool, London Gateway, Southampton, Teesport, and Mossend, serving Scotland.

Felixstowe, the UK’s largest container terminal, is home to Maritime Transport’s headquarters. The hub will be capable of handling 16 trains per day when fully operational and will remove more than 83 million HGV miles from the UK road network, Maritime Transport said. (ben)
