Mexico's mega ship milestone
Contecon Manzanillo (CMSA), a subsidiary of ICTSI operating the Specialised Container Terminal 2 in the Port of Manzanillo, has set a new milestone in Mexico's port industry by handling 14,400 teu during a single vessel call by the CMA CGM's 'APL Vanda'. This achievement demonstrates CMSA's ability to manage large container ships efficiently and is a historic moment for the Mexican port community.
The 'APL Vanda', part of CMA CGM's Asia Central South America service, is the second 400 m long vessel to dock at the Port of Manzanillo and the largest, with a capacity of 17,292 teu. The call underlines the port's increasing importance in global trade and its position as Mexico's primary gateway for Asian cargo.
CMSA plans to increase its capacity by more than 40% within the next two years and continues to invest in infrastructure and expansion to meet the growing demands of the industry. (pb)
