Melbourne Port welcomes Vict upgrade
Victoria International Container Terminal (Vict), a subsidiary of International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI) and Australia's first fully automated container terminal, has completed phase 3A of its expansion project at the Port of Melbourne.
This upgrade allows Vict to accommodate the largest container vessels, known as neo-Panamax giants, making it the only terminal in Melbourne capable of receiving such large ships.
The completion of Phase 3A increases the terminal’s capacity by 30% to 1.25 million teu and extends the quay to 735 m. The expansion also includes new storage blocks, truck lanes, and additional equipment like automated ship-to-shore cranes and stacking cranes. Phase 3B is scheduled for completion in 2026. (pb)
