Mega-long train from China crosses Latvia
This week an especially long cargo train will be transported across the Latvian rail network, continuing the cooperation between Latvian and Russian Railways, LDZ and RZD. LDZ's logistic branch is responsible for the transportation of trains in Latvia’s territory as well as the organisation of logistics and customs services.
The cargo train, consisting of one hundred 20-foot containers, is 1 km long. On Thursday, 2 April, it set off on the route from China via Russia and Latvia to the Kaliningrad region.
The cargo train will reach its final destination in Kaliningrad (Russia) in about nine days, but will cross Latvia’s territory in ten hours, including the time needed for customs and border crossing procedures. (ben)
