Measures urgently required for green re-start
At EUR 6.4 billion, Germany's rail industry achieved a record turnover in H1/2020, due to an impressive 25.5% increase compared to the previous year. Domestic business grew by 18.8%, and export turnover by as much as 39%.
However, the crisis will have a noticeable impact on this year's business and the industry's development for the years to come, VDB (German railway industry association) said. For example, order intake has dropped by 6.3% to EUR 7.5 billion. Foreign markets are particularly affected.
The association therefore expects unprecedented challenges for the export trade in 2021 and calls for a digitalisation offensive and a reform of procurement procedures, which are urgently required for a green re-start. (ben)
