Malungsfors returns to business after more than 20 years

In Sweden, rail carrier Hector Rail and members of the country’s government celebrated the re-opening of the Västerdalsbanan timber line and the new transhipment terminal in Malungsfors. Freight traffic to and from the city came to a halt over 20 years ago and has now been resumed.

The track has been renovated and trains can now run the route between Malungsfors and Ragsveden. The Swedish infrastructure manager, Trafikverket, invested SEK 48 million (EUR 4.5 million) in the re-opening of the line.

The upgraded Västerdalsbanan enables forest owners to transport timber and provides opportunities for companies in the municipality and region to develop and increase their production. (ben)
