Malta Freeport Terminal’s extension plan
At a press conference with Silvio Schembri, Malta’s minister for the economy, EU funds and lands, Malta Freeport Terminals CEO Alex Montebello presented the terminals’ extension plan. For Montebello, “the Terminal Two extension will consolidate our reputation as a major transhipment hub in the Mediterranean.”
The north quay at the Freeport’s Terminal Two will be extended by 176 m and the west quay by 195 m. After signing a landmark agreement with the Malta government, Malta Freeport Terminals has bolstered its capability to handle the world’s largest container ships.
Recent acquisitions have made it possible to plan and execute these operations targeting maximum efficiency, such as two giant megamax quay cranes and the latest IT systems. (lh)
