Malaysia: a new place to store cocoa beans
Chocolate manufacturer Barry Callebaut and Maersk have entered into a long-term partnership to build and operate a new cocoa bean warehousing and dispatching facility in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia. The construction work started after a ground breaking ceremony, which was held last week.
Located in the Johor Bahru district, close to the Johor port and the border to Singapore, this new multi-storey facility is one of the largest cocoa bean warehouses in Southeast Asia, the two partners said. It spans across more than 500,000 sqm and has a fit-for-purpose design with operational efficiency as a priority. The warehouse is only 1 km away from Barry Callebaut’s cocoa processing factory.
Since January 2022, Maersk has connected Barry Callebaut’s supply chain from cocoa growing origins in Africa to the factories in Asia Pacific through its ocean and landside logistics services. (ben)
