Maindeck cargo soars in Munich
From January to October 2021, around 55,000 t of freight carried by cargo-only aircraft was processed at Munich airport. This is an increase of nearly 40% compared with 2019, the last year before the crisis. Cargo-only flights now no longer accounts for around 10% of the airport's cargo throughput, but for around 45%.
Munich benefits from regular flights of Russia’s AirBridgeCargo Airlines, which flies between the Bavarian capital and various Asian destinations six times a week with Boeing B747-8Fs.
The positive development in cargo-only traffic has also been spurred by a newcomer. Moldova’s Aerotranscargo lands a jumbo freighter from Hong Kong twice a week (photo). The airline operates this cargo route on behalf of international logistics services provider DB Schenker. (ah)
