Maersk and Nike to christen green-fuelled vessel
Maersk and Nike will christen one of the world’s first methanol-enabled container vessels at the Port of Los Angeles on 27 August.
This green-fuelled vessel, with a capacity of more than 16,000 teu, will be named at a private ceremony featuring Maersk CEO Vincent Clerc, Nike representatives, and local officials. The following day, 28 August, the public can tour the 350 m vessel, exploring sailors’ quarters and the bridge.
This is Maersk’s fifth ship to be powered by green methanol. As part of its goal to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, Maersk has ordered 20 more such vessels with innovative designs to enhance capacity and efficiency. (pb)
