M&M expands into southwest China
The Militzer & Münch group, which is headquartered in St Gallen (Switzerland) opened a new office in Chongqing in southwestern China on 4 January 2022. It's the company’s eighth location in the country.
The municipality of Chongqing, the economic centre of southwestern China and an important railway junction on the New Silk Road, covers an area roughly equivalent to the size of Austria and has 32 million inhabitants. It is the starting point of the Yu’Xin’Ou Sino-Euro railfreight route, so called because is starts in Chongqing (Yu), runs via Xinjiang (Xin) and ends in Europe (Ou). More than 8,000 freight trains have used the route since it was established in 2012. The route runs through China, Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus and Poland before reaching Duisburg (Germany).
M & M’s new office is managed by Dave Li, a native of Chongqing with ten years of logistics experience. Andreas Löwenstein, regional managing director for Asia and the Far East, said the move confirms M & M’s aim of “strengthening its Asia – Europe transport networks.” (sh)
