Luxemburg now chairs the Moselle commission

The Moselle commission elects a new chair every year.  Max Nilles from Luxembourg's ministry for mobility and public works has assumed this position for the mandate from 1 January to 31 December 2020. The Moselle commission comprises committees and working groups that deal with specific issues concerning inland shipping on the Moselle River.

One special focus of the Luxembourg presidency will be the upcoming revision of the Moselle treaty. This treaty forms the legal basis for all activities of the commission and for the collection of levies on the international Moselle.

In order to represent the interest of inland shipping on this river, the Moselle commission was founded on the basis of the Moselle treaty at the end of 1962. It is headquartered in Trier (Germany). Its mission is to create favourable conditions for Moselle shipping and to ensure the safety and the smooth operation of ship traffic. (mw)
