Lufthansa Cargo saved 25,000 t of CO₂ in 2024
Lufthansa Cargo continued its climate protection efforts in 2024, saving more than 25,000 tons of CO₂ through sustainable fuel use, flight optimisation and fleet modernisation. The airline operates a fleet of Boeing 777 freighters and has ordered seven 777-8Fs with delivery expected by 2030.
Key initiatives included SAF use, improved statistical fuel planning and taxiing with reduced engines to cut emissions. On the ground, Lufthansa Cargo expanded its electric vehicle fleet and implemented new recycling measures: worn-out cargo belts are dismantled, with textiles reused for insulation and metal parts melted down (photo).
The German airline also took part in research flights aimed at reducing contrails, supporting broader climate goals. Through its membership in the Smart Freight Centre network, Lufthansa Cargo underlines its ambition to drive sustainable logistics across the global supply chain. (ah)
