lRU promotes TIR in Riyadh
Border delays raise the cost of international road haulage by up to 50%, dampening trade potential. At the Global Logistics Forum in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the International Road Transport Union (IRU) underlined the significant payoffs of harmonising border-crossing procedures and urged to introduce the global TIR transit system in further countries.
Over 30,000 transport and logistics companies already use TIR in their day-to-day operations globally and benefit from it. In the Gulf Cooperation Council region for example, TIR has slashed transport times by up to 92% and costs by up to 50%. TIR volumes in this region have grown by more than ten-fold over the past three years alone, IRU said. (ben)
