Lower fees for customers in Barcelona
In order to mitigate the economic impact of Covid-19, the Port of Barcelona is lowering stay rates at terminals. Sensitive to the overheads that weigh on importers, the port has approved a flat rate that reduces the cost of stay in import containers.
The Port of Barcelona wants to clarify that this extraordinary measure - an extraordinary flat rate of EUR 2.0 per teu and day during the period between 31 March 2020 and 13 April 2020 - applies exclusively to the traffic of import-filled containers found at the BEST and APMT Barcelona terminals.
Yet, during the period in which this extraordinary storage fee is in effect, the time of stay of the containers will also be suspended and will not be calculated for the cost of stay even when the extraordinary measures adopted by the Spanish government come to an end.
For example, with the application of this new flat rate, a container that was unloaded on 21 March at the Port of Barcelona and could not leave the terminal until 20 April would save about 65% of stay costs. (mw)
