Low water surcharge in Manaus

Maersk has announced a low water surcharge (LWC) due to anticipated severe drought in the Amazon region. Effective from 1 August 2024 (non-FMC) and 15 August 2024 (FMC), all shipments to or from Manaus will incur a surcharge of USD 5,900 per dry container.

With the surcharge, the shipping company aims to ensure safe navigation and service regularity amidst low water levels. Subject to review, it will be lifted once conditions normalise.

Customers are advised to anticipate transport and reduce container quantities per booking to mitigate delays. Maersk is also exploring solutions to minimise logistical impacts during the dry season. Updates will be provided as the situation evolves. (pb)
