Long Beach's eco milestone
The Port of Long Beach has introduced a fleet of 33 zero-emission, battery-electric yard tractors, replacing traditional gasoline and diesel models.
This deployment, the largest on the West Coast, is part of the sustainable terminals accelerating regional transformation (Start) project, funded by a USD 50 million grant from the California Air Resources Board and additional US EPA funding.
These machines mark a significant step towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing towards a zero-emissions future. Involving collaboration with SSA Terminals and Southern California Edison, the project aligns with broader environmental and public health goals, particularly in disadvantaged communities. (pb)
