Logistics providers fear missed opportunities for Alitalia
Alitalia’s decision to suspend the Rome – New York service in May has angered Anama (Associazione Nazionale Agenti Merci Aeree), the air cargo arm of the Italian freight forwarding association Fedespedi.
President Alessandro Albertini: "The decision to cancel this service just at the moment when the economy is starting up again shows that the national carrier cannot deviate from its vision of an aviation industry that focuses only on passenger traffic."
He pointed out that, because other legacy carriers took a more comprehensive view of the aviation industry, goods would find alternative ways to reach their target markets, including through other airports in Europe. Then nobody would have the right to lament “the weaker competitiveness of our goods and the Italian airport system." (ah)
