Logistics concepts for ammonia
RWE will use rail transport for the onward shipment of fuel from the green import terminal it is planning to open in Brunsbüttel, North Germany. To this end, the company is developing a logistics concept with VTG to deliver the ammonia by tank wagon to customers in Germany and neighbouring countries. This will include exploring delivery routes and determining the necessary filling and transport capacities.
Rail transport is advantageous for industrial customers, as no connection to a pipeline or inland port is required. From 2026, around 300,000 t of green ammonia are expected to arrive in Brunsbüttel per year. Delivering ammonia by tank wagon has been an established method for years. (ben)
