LNG trucks delivered

The Italian logistics company Gruber has acquired 100 S-Way LNG trucks from Iveco. The units, powered by liquefied natural gas, are scheduled for delivery by the end of the year.

Gruber Logistics, based in South Tyrol, is committed to a future that combines both sustainability and better business performance. It has therefore ordered 100 S-Way trucks from the Italian commercial vehicle manufacturer Iveco, founded after a merger in Turin in 1975, with delivery due at the end of 2021.

These trucks will allow the company to provide sustainable transport services, as the units are powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). The vehicles will be delivered by Gasser, the local Iveco dealer in Bozen, South Tyrol.

EU standards in sight

Gruber Logistics’ decision to convert parts of its fleet to use alternative fuel was triggered by the company’s concern for the environment as well as its commitment to make a tangible contribution to achieving the climate goals set by the European Union.

Gruber Logistics is headquartered at the heart of the South Tyrolean region, embroiled in a debate on environmental issues of late. Now its political assembly has introduced significant measures to limit the impact of pollution generated by heavy vehicles using the Brenner Pass. These developments also contributed to Gruber’s latest decision.

Thus Gruber Logistics has now opted for Iveco’s LNG-powered S-Way vehicles, which are designed not only to minimise their impact on the environment, but also to operate economically. After all, the vehicles were developed in such a way that a significant reduction in fuel consumption and corresponding pollution is the result when they are in action on the roads. NO2 is reduced by 90% and particulate matter by 95%.

Reducing emissions from the fleet

At the same time, CO2 emissions were reduced by 95%, compared to the use of biomethane instead of diesel propulsion. Group CEO Martin Gruber said that "our goal is to operate one of Europe’s most ecological fleets for sustainable transport, by exploiting existing technologies and supporting innovation, so that new zero-impact technologies can conquer the market more quickly."

According to Iveco’s brand director in Europe, Carmelo Impelluso, digitalisation and sustainability are fundamental elements in the company’s development plan, both from a social as well as an environmental point of view. He subsequently confirmed that the two companies’ share a vision for the future of the transport world.

On the right path

Mihai Daderlat, Iveco’s business director for the Italian market, in turn, underlined the fact that this latest development "clearly shows that working for sustainable mobility is the right path for Gruber Logistics and Iveco."
