LNG for three PCTC

As previously reported (see ITJ Daily of 22 June), European Car Carriers (UECC), jointly owned by Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK) and Wallenius Lines, will build three LNG battery hybrid powered generation PCTC with China Ship Building Trading and Jiangnan Shipyard Group.

The keel laying ceremony for UECC’s first PCTC took place in Shanghai recently. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, no representatives from the UECC head office in Oslo, Norway were able to attend.

According to UECC’s CEO Glenn Edvardsen, “Yet another milestone has taken place in UECC’s massive investment in sustainable new vessels. With these three new vessels in our fleet, along with our two existing dual fuel LNG PCTCs, UECC will go beyond IMO’s target of 40% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030.” (mw)
