Lithuanian carrier invests in fleet
LTG Cargo is preparing to renew its railcar fleet and has launched an international public procurement of grain railcars and platform wagons. The Lithuaninan freight railway intends to purchase total up to 728 railcars - up to 500 grain railcars and 228 platform wagons.
The new railcars will be used for container transportation in the 1,520 mm wide railway network. The grain market in Lithuania grew by 30% last year and reached a harvest of 7 million t. And demand for grain in the Baltic States is forecast to continue to rise.
The company will also develop its intermodal transportation activities – by 2030, the aim will be to increase the volume of intermodal cargo ninefold, LTG Cargo said. With the investment in the fleet, the company aims to expand cargo volumes and further diversify cargo flows. (ben)
