Lithuanian and Polish carrier to found a JV
The Lithuanian railways LTG Carbo and Polish carrier PKP Cargo have signed an agreement on the establishment of a JV to provide intermodal freight services. The new company is scheduled to launch its operations in Q1/2021.
The JV will primarily engage in intermodal transportation between Lithuania and Poland, as well as offer services to freight terminals in Germany and Northern Italy. In the development of the new portfolio, major attention will be paid to the shipment of semi-trailers and containers.
About 24 million t of freight are transported between Lithuania and Poland every year of which only 0.6 million t are actually carried by rail. (ben)
