Lithium retrofit powers Lafarge tug
Leclanché, known for its energy storage solutions and battery systems for electric and hybrid ships based on lithium-ion cell technology, is supplying a 766 kWh Navius MRS-3 battery system to retrofit Lafarge's nearly 60-year-old pusher tug "Marsouin."
The vessel “Marsouin”, used for transporting cement and similar materials in Paris, will be transformed into a hybrid ship with diesel and electric propulsion, aimed at reducing its CO2 emissions by 40% and NOx emissions by 70%.
Lafarge, a subsidiary of the Holcim Group, is a French industrial company specialising in cement and related materials. The project is part of Lafarge's commitment to sustainability and is expected to be completed in H1/2024, potentially in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics. (pb)
