Linking Hong Kong and Zhuhai by truck
Nippon Express Logistics has launched a cross-border transport service connecting Zhuhai and Hong Kong by truck via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB). The move is a reaction to various logistics-related restrictions imposed by China, in response to the spread of Covid-19 infections.
Severe traffic restrictions are still in place between Shenzhen and Hong Kong in southern China, and transport delays thus have an impact on domestic logistics as well as on international supply chains via Hong Kong, a key import/export hub.
Cargo from southern China and other parts of the country is consolidated and sorted at a Nippon Express warehouse in Zhuhai, transhipped to double-licenced trucks at a cross-docking facility in Zhuhai, and then transported via the HZMB to Hong Kong airport, or to other designated destinations. (sh)
