Lineas and ECS set up joint rail service
The railfreight operator and the intermodal specialist have joined forces to launch a freight train connection between Zeebrugge in Belgium and Crailsheim (Stuttgart region) in Germany, offering three weekly round trips carrying 42 containers per train. This will take more than 11,000 containers and as many truck trips off the road each year, resulting in an annual reduction of 2,600 t of CO2.
The rail link uses a new loading and unloading method which disconnects the full set of wagons to be unloaded, and then picks up a set of wagons already filled. With this procedure, the 751 km route can be completed within 24 hours. (ben)
