Liebherr to assist Gdansk terminal
The Baltic Hub, formerly DCT Gdansk, Poland, has commissioned Liebherr Container Cranes to retrofit a Liduro energy storage system along with a reduced sized generator from their Liebherr rubber tyre gantry cranes (RTGs).
This is a hybrid green energy storage solution and a “technology [that] represents the future of energy storage in container handling”, says Oran Krane, Liebherr’s container cranes head of department for upgrades and modifications.
The plan is to facilitate the capture and storage of the energy generated during hoist lowering and braking: the current genset of 13 L will be replaced by a smaller genset of 8 L. One of the world’s major manufacturers of ship to shore container cranes, Liebherr Container Cranes has set up dual layer capacitors that are able to rapidly charge and discharge many times, which is an asset for energy storage.
